not auto defrosting

G.E. gss22iembww have replace motherboard - have checked heater has cont. --defrost thermo has cont frozen or warm still freezing up ho do i manually put into fefrost mode.

Hi Kent,

If the heater, defrost thermostat and the main board are ok then the problem is going to be the thermistor. You cannot force this refrigerator into a defrost cycle. Some techs will lead you to believe they can when really all they do is apply voltage directly to the heater bypassing the main board. I don’t recommend doing this nor do I believe this will help you figure out what the problem is. You can do one of two things, you can check the thermistor or you can simply replace it because it is very cheap. These two pages will help.
