Whirlpool dryer will not start?

by jamie mercer
(Madisonville TN)

Whirlpool dryer model# LER5636EQ3 will not start on any of the settings but the timer runs or at least sounds like it is running when the dryer is put on the start button the timed drying setting even without pushing the start button. The timer makes no noise on any of the other settings. Any ideas?

Hi Jamie,

The first thing to check is the thermal fuse. Here is a link to the part I am referring to Thermal Fuse

To check the thermal fuse, use an ohmmeter to test for continuity across the fuse with the power disconnected from the dryer and the wires pulled off the fuse. If the fuse is opened replace and if you have continuity, it is ok and your problem is elsewhere. If you don’t have an ohmmeter I recommend replacing the thermal fuse because it is most likely the problem and it is cheaper than buying an ohmmeter.

To access the thermal fuse remove the back of the dryer and look for it on the duct on the left-hand side.

If you find that the thermal fuse is bad check the vent because a clogged or partially clogged vent will cause the thermal fuse to blow.

All of this and more at Whirlpool Dryer Won’t Run.

Thank you,
