Spray arms not working on Kitchen Aid dishwasher

by Scott
(Cypress, TX)

I have a Kitchen Aid model # KUDK03ITWH2 dishwasher. The tub fills with water, but the spray arms never run. I've checked to be sure that the holes are not clogged. I can hear a buzzing sound during that part of the cycle. If I cancel the cycle, the tub drains like it should. Is there a separate pump/motor for the spray arms that is bad or is there something else that I should check first? Thank you.

Answer

Hi Scott,

This model does have a separate pump for the drain and wash. On this model I have seen the impeller break free from the pump motor so all that will turn is the motor. You will have to take the pump apart to see if that is the problem. It is been several years since I have worked on one of these models so I cannot tell you how this is done.

The motor could also be hung. There could be something clogging the impeller so that it cannot turn. If this is the case you will hear it humming then the motor will overheat and turn off. I hope this helps!

Thank you,

I'll try that out

Thanks for the reply. I'll see if I can figure out how to access that motor and see if it is jammed.
