Answer

Hi

Had you not said that you hear a humming noise I would say without hesitation that the control board in the door was bad. However since you are hearing the humming noise there is a chance there is something else. Take the ice bin out try it without the ice bin. Open the door and press the door switch so you can try the dispenser and see what it going on. When you do this the fork in the back of the dispenser should turn and the solenoid should lift up. If the solenoid lifts up but the fork doesn’t turn then I still think the board is bad. Before you replace the board see if the motor will turn by hand and if not it is frozen and if so go ahead and replace the control However if the fork turns and the solenoid lifts then the problem is going to be mechanical problem with the ice bin.

If the problem is a mechanical problem with the ice bin then this page will help. GE Ice Dispenser Repair Scroll down to the section titled Old Style GE Dispenser Repair. Unfortunately the video is not for your model.

Here is a link to the dispenser board that I think is the problem.
