FRIGIDAIRE REFRIGERATOR NOT COOLING

by DD
(Chino Hills ,Ca)

FRIGIDAIRE SIDE BY SIDE NOT COOLING. FRIDGE NOR FREEZER.CONDENSER STARTED BUZZING/HUMMING AND RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY,COOLING CEASED ALL ON THE SAME DAY.Turned off and unplugged for a few hours, cleaned condenser as well-though not much to clean.

Condenser is still running but not cooling.

Ice cubes were hollow a few months ago, then mostly solid-all was well (we thought).............

Would love to repair-if possible (save from landfill). Not sure if worth it (: THANK-YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!

Answer

Hi DD,

This sounds like the start relay on the compressor is bad. When this happens the compressor will try to start (buzz) then over heat and cut off. The start relay is on the side of the compressor. Disconnect the refrigerator and take the relay off and shake it and if it rattles then it is bad. If not then it is more than likely ok but it still could be bad.

If that isn’t the problem you will have figure out what isn’t working such as is the compressor running, is the fan next to the compressor running, is the fan inside the freezer running?

This page has a list of things to check and it has pictures of the start relay I am referring to. Refrigerator not running

Thank you,
