FRIDGE NOT WORKING

I TURNED OFF MY G.E. 10 MONTHS AGO AND JUST MOVED IT TO ANOTHER HOME. IT WORKED VERY WELL WHEN I TURNED IT OFF, NOW THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS IS THE LIGHT IN THE FRIDGE...IT HASN'T BEEN LAID DOWN AT ALL IN THE MOVE. WHAT COULD IT BE? THANK YOU PEGGY

Answer

Hi Peggie,

Often when refrigerator is unplugged and off for long periods of time the fan motors will lock up. Check both fans (one in freezer and one near the compressor) and if one isn’t running see if turning it by hand will free it up enough to start working again. If not you may need to replace the fan. If this isn’t the problem please post the model number of the refrigerator and we can go from there.

Thank you,

Fridge not working
by: Jordan

My fridge is not working. However my freezer is. I've tried messing with the temp but it does nothing. What should I do?

Thanks
Jordan

The most common thing that causes this is a defrost problem. This page talks about this type of problem.

Same problem
by: Bob

GSS25KGSCWW Nothing but lights. Ice maker not hooked up. Following your page about mother board I replaced it. When I installed it the fridge came on for about 10 seconds, then shut off again. ( still just cabinet lights). So I was trying everything bummed out cause I just spent $135.00 on the board. I removed the jumper on pin2 of J1 even though my model was not on the list. Then I pulled the J2 connector and the fridge came on. The temp setting and display on top of refridgerator face only displays when you push a button and let go. If you try to change temp, display turns off. Only shows 5 and 5. Apparently some sensor or control on the other side of J2 connector is defective but I don't know where the wires go or terminate. Any suggestions?

It is not common (possible but not common) for a board to cause the type of problem you are having. If you installation instructions don’t call for the jumper to be cut it should be there so if possible reinstall the wire. What I would check of voltage coming to the board and if you don’t have voltage there is a loose connection. You should have voltage from the orange wire on the white connector at the bottom of the board to the wire on the far right on the blue connector at the bottom of the board.

There is a fuse on the board that could cause this type of problem. I have never seen one blown but this is certainly a possibility. If the fuse is blow on the new board you have a short somewhere. This could be hard to find but look for any burn wires near or around the compressor or at the cord.

GE fridge, nothing works except lights.
by: Alex

Fridge/freezer are not cooling, fans and compressor are not running, digital display is dark, but lights are ON.
Model GE PDS22SBRBLSS.

I'd appreciate any help in troubleshooting the root of the problem.
Thank you.
