Dryer stopped during a cycle and will not turn back on.

by James
(Clute Texas USA)

I was running the dryer and it stopped approximately 2 mins into the cycle. I pushed the start button and it started back up and ran for another 2 mins. Then stopped and will not turn on.

The dryer is a Whirlpool Supreme Heavy Duty - Super Capacity. model # LER7646EQ1.

Hi James,

The two most common things that will cause this model dryer to stop running are the thermal fuse and the door switch. The only problem is that it is hard to believe either one would temporarily go back to work. But who knows, I would still start with them first. What now
by: James

Shawn,

I checked the fuse, I bypassed it and nothing. How do I check the door switch.

Shawn,
This is what I have found so far. The timer is not ticking at all any more. The belt is good and no sound comes from the motor. The fuse appears good. I am checking the door switch and wll let you know.

You check the door switch with an ohmmeter but first look at the little metal actuator that the door hits. Sometimes it will break or partially break, if it partially breaks it is a little trickier. Just wiggle it a little to make sure it doesn?t break off.

This page may help with using the ohmmeter if you have one How To Use An Ohmmeter

If that is not your problem let me know and we will go from there.

Ok, so after working on the dryer forever I found the problem. One of the 110v legs in the wall plug had broken off and was not making contact. I replaced the wall plug and everything runs great. Hotter than ever. Thanks for your help.
