Dryer not working at all

by Michael Saldivar

I have a Maytag Performa Dryer. It is about 6 years old.It does not come on at all. We have checked the outlet on the wall, we have checked the plug that connects to the dryer. We have checked the door, we have checked the right knob that turns clockwise that has the settings from on to off all with volt meter and the meter shows that there is power in all of these areas. Answer

Hi Michael,

Without the model number I can’t say for sure but I am almost sure that the heating element is located at the back top of the cabinet. Raising the top of the dryer can access this element. Disconnect the power before doing so.

If you raise the top and cannot see a heating element at the back top then you have a different model ignore this answer and give me the model number.

If you do find the heating element there then you have the model I believe you have, follow these instructions.

On the metal can that houses the heating element you will see two thermostats, one large and one small. The small thermostat is more than likely your problem. Take the wires off the thermostat and check for continuity across it with an ohmmeter. If it is open replace it and if not the problem is elsewhere.

Let me know what you find.

Thank you,

Electrical cut off

When the heat limiter and or the fuse are defective on this model, PYE2300AZW, a Maytag Performa, does it stop all power to the motor as well?

The little fuse on the side of the heater-can will cause the power to the motor to be cut off so the dryer will not run.

If this is blown check the vent because it can cause this fuse to blow if it were clogged.

The thermal fuse and the hi-limit come as a kit and should be changed at the same time.
