Dishwater will not fill; will only drain
by Newton

Our Braun SHX 46A dishwasher only drains any water I pour in it. The door should always be closed when it starts, but now the motor turns on as soon as I press the "on" button, before I close the door. I have cleaned every part mentioned in the manual, to no avail. Is there anything I can do to repair this much-loved machine? Thank you. Newton

AnswerHi Newton,
Replacement parts for Bosch SHX46A07 There is a float switch on your dishwasher that turns on the drain pump if the water level reaches flood state. This float switch bypasses the door switch and turns on the drain pump even if the door is opened. This is to ensure that the dishwasher doesn’t over flow and flood your kitchen. I am assuming that water isn’t up to flood state so the float switch is the first thing you should check.
First check to see if the float is stuck up. Sometimes soap residue will cause the float to stick up. This will cause the drain pump to continuously run. If this is the case clean the residue and try it again.
If that isn’t the problem I believe the float switch is bad. If you have an ohmmeter you can confirm by disconnecting the power to the dishwasher and removing the float switch. The float switch will be located just under the float under the dishwasher. Once off you there should be three terminals marked C, NO and NC. Check for continuity from C to NO and if you have continuity this switch is bad.
Click here to view and/or purchase the float switch. I hope this helps!
