dishwasher stops during cycles

dishwasher stops during cycles and you have to hit the door to start it back up. Also the panel display does not light up.

Being that you have to hit the door to get it back going the first thing I would look at is the door switch. Sometimes these switches get to the point that you have to press it just a little further to make it work. Hitting the door may be enough to get it going. Next time just try pushing on the door just a little and if that works then I would say the door switch is bad. This can also be a control problem but without the model number I don,t know what kind of controls it has. If you need more help please leave your model number.

i have a similar problem. it runs then stops i push on the door then runs again. stops, push on door, starts again. i have a ge model number edw4000g03bb
