Common GE Washer Parts

These are images and descriptions of common GE washer parts that I describe how to diagnose in my washer repair guide. Note that these parts are for GE top-loading washers with plastic tubs made after 1995 only.

Water Valve

The water valve lets water into the tub while in fill cycle. This is the most popular water valve for GE top-loading washers made after 1995 and the part number is WH13X86 Order Here. icon. Note that some models have a water valve with more than two coils. In this case, you will need to order the valve by model number.

Water Pump

The water pump pumps the water out at the beginning of each spin cycle. This electric water pump will fit all GE top-loading washers made after 1995. The part number for this pump is WH23X10013. Order Here icon

Agitator Coupling

The agitator coupling (sometimes called an air bell) attaches the agitator to the transmission shaft. This coupling is on all GE top-loading washers made after 1995. The part number for this coupling is WH43X10009. Order Here icon

Mechanical lid Switch

The lid switch causes the washer to stop when you open the lid. The mechanical lid switch was used on earlier GE top-loading washers made after 1995. Then they started using the magnetic lid switches as described below. There are two of these switches and they differ in length. The part number for the six inch one is WH12X1044. Order Here icon The part number for the four inch one is WH12X1043. Order Here icon. Note that if you are unsure which one your washer uses, order by model number.

Magnetic lid Switch

The lid switch causes the washer to stop when you open the lid. The magnetic lid switch is used on all later GE top-loading washers models. The part number for this lid switch is WH12X10141 Order Here icon . Note that I have seen a couple of these washers that have a different lid switch so if your switch doesn’t look like the one in the picture below, order it by model number.

Clutch

The clutch is a device that allows the motor to reach full speed before taking on the load of the washer. The clutch was only used on earlier GE washers made after 1995. The later models don’t need a clutch(made in the last few years). The part number for the clutch is WH5X256 Order Here. icon

Belt

The belt connects the motor to the transmission. This belt will fit all top-loading GE washers (even the ones made before 1995) with the exception of the HydroWash. The part number for this belt is WH1X2026 Order Here. icon
