water collecting in bottom of GE Refrigerator

by Gary
(Monument, CO)

GE freezer on top refrigerator model TBX24ZIXBRAA has water collecting under veggie bins. sounds like defrost drain tube is clogged. I removed tube from back and it is fine. How do I access the drain tube inside the cabinet to clean it out?

Answer

Hi Gary,

To access the drain on your refrigerator you have to remove the back wall of the freezer. Once done you can use a turkey baser to force hot water down the drain hole until water flows freely. The drain hold will be located just under the coils in the freezer.

However on this model typically the drain trap attached to the back of the refrigerator will clog. Double-check that first.

Also every once in a while particularly on this models the pan that funnels the water to the drain will rust up causing this problem. If this is the case you may be able to use silicone to patch the rust spots. Sometimes the drain hole rusts out and gets larger causing the drain water to miss the drain. In this case you also may be able correct this with silicone.

Thank you,
