Washer will not stop filling

by Steve
(Gulfport, MS)

Washer will not stop filling, regardless of fill level selected, and then, it overflows. Kenmore washer about 11 years old.

Answer

If you have to turn the water off at the wall to stop water flow the water valve is bad.

If unplugging the washer stops water flow then there is something wrong with the water level switch. First check the tube that is connected from the water level control to the bottom of the tub. Often on Whirlpool (makes most Kenmore washers) the tube will come loose at the tub. If this is the case simply reinstall the tube and the washer is fixed. Also if the tube is clogged or broken you will get the same problem so check that. If nothing is wrong with the tube replace the water level switch.

I hope this helps!!
