Vibrating condenser fan blade

by Saturday repair man
(Memphis)

I have a Whirlpool side by side frig that has a noisy fan motor. The fan appears to be out of balance. Is there a way to balance the plastic blade? Can the fan shaft and fan be replaced or is it better to replace the whole motor, shaft and fan blade?

Answer

Hi,

Often the fans will seem as if they are off balance when the bearings in the motor have gone bad in which case you will have to replace the whole motor. Even if it were something wrong with the shaft you can’t replace it so you still have to replace the whole motor.

I believe the motor is the problem but there is a small chance that it is the blade. Remove the blade and look to see if it looks cracked or broken in anyway. If so replace it. If not clean it and place it back on fan. Then turn the refrigerator back on. If the If the noise goes away chalk it up to a dirty fan blade. If the noise does not go away, replace the fan motor.

I hope this helps!

Thank you,
