Refrigerator not producing ice Kenmoore Coldspot/Model 52212100

by Ken
(PA)

I have a Kenmoore Coldspot side by side refrigerator that has no water flow to the icemaker but has flow to the water dispenser. (Manufactured in 7/2002)

The ice maker stopped working a few years ago and I'm now finally getting around to wanting to fix it.

The water line to the ice maker is direct from the water valves. So the check is very straight forward.
I shut the water off and disconnected the water line from the valve going to the ice maker and turned it back on and no water flowed from the valve for the ice maker. I suspect the valve is bad and have ordered a new one. I wanted to ask just in case there maybe something else related.

A couple years back I had to replace the self defrosting part in it. I mention this in case there would be some connection as to something else being wrong as the harness plugs into the bottom of the freezer side and appears to have the compressor, condensor motor, and valve wires connected.

Any help would be appreciated. It appears that all current is running properly. Only the refrigerator is plugged in the outlet.

Answer

Hi Ken,

I am having a hard time finding a parts breakdown on this refrigerator from that model number. I am going to assume it was make by Whirlpool because Whirlpool makes most Kenmore refrigerators but GE and other companies make them as well. Note that the test I describe below will only work if the Whirlpool made your refrigerator.

I don't think the defrost control has anything to do with the icemaker but I can't look it up so I am not sure.

If you pull the front cover off the icemaker you should see test holes marked with letters. Make a jumper wire with a short piece of insulated wire skinned on both ends. Place one end of the jumper in the hole marked L and the other in the hole marked V. This should activate the water valve and water should flow. If not more than likely the water valve is bad.

If water does flow leave a comment and we will go from there.

Also this may help Whirlpool Icemaker Not Working

If you don’t see test holes the refrigerator was not made by Whirlpool recheck the model number and get back with me.

Thank you,
