Refrigerator Not Cooling Correctly

by Jeff

I HAVE A GE HSS22GFT WW SIDE BY SIDE I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH FREEZER WARMING UP THEN ICE STARTS TO MELT Then IT REFREEZES. HAVE REPLACED THE MAIN BOARD BOTH FANS IT ACTS LIKE IT GOES INTO DEFROST MODE TOO LONG THEN STARTS BACK UP. WHEN IT DOES THIS IF YOU UNPLUG IT AND PLUG IT BACK IN IT STARTS RUNNING AGIAN CAN YOU HELP?

Hi Jeff,

Here is the Parts Breakdown
icon for a similar refrigerator. If the fans are running and the compressor isn’t it is the main board (you already tried), the compressor start relay or the compressor. Disconnect power from refrigerator. Them remove the cover off the side of the compressor. Pull the start relay of the side of the compressor and shake it. If it rattles when you shake it replace it.

You said you changed the fans but did you change the main board first? Because the fans can cause the main board to go bad so if you had a faulty fan it may have caused the new board to go bad.

If it is in fact staying in defrost too long the thermistor on the evaporator needs to be replaced. With that being said it is unlikely it is staying in defrost too long but anything can happen.

I hope this helps!!

Thank you

With the compressor running open the doors on the refrigerator for more than three minutes. Then the fans should come on and if they don’t the main board is bad or there is a loose connection somewhere. Like I said the fans can cause the board to go bad. If this is the case there will be a burnt resistor on the front of the board.
