Ice maker not working

by Dennis
(marietta, ga)

I replaced the entire ice maker unit
and it does not work. I have power to
the unit but it does not respond to
any of the jumper test. Is it possible
to get a bad unit right out of the box
or is there something else I need to do?
This is your standard side by side with
the door mounted ice bin. I noted the
special instructions for this type of
ice maker but still had no response
to the jumper tests.

Answer
Hi Dennis,

Using the jumper wire is not as effective on the models with the ice-bin mounted in the door. It should work if you follow these instructions.

1. Unplug the refrigerator for at least 30 seconds.

2. Insert the jumper from T to H and close the door. Note to be cretin that the jumper stays in place or the test will fail.

3. Then after the jumper is in place plug the refrigerator back in and wait 15 seconds or so before opening the freezer door.

Of done correctly the icemaker should start a cycle and if not I believe the problem is in the optics (emitter and receiver board).

If you haven’t already done so follow the instructions on this page for diagnosing the optics. Whirlpool Icemaker Not Working

optics test
by: Dennis

The optics tested good. two flashes and a pause when the flapper is open and a solid red light when closed. I will try the jumper test again just to make sure I did not miss something the first three times around.
More to come.
