Ice maker not working

by Mary
(El Paso, TX)

I have a three year old Kenmore Side by side Model number 106.5702*602

The ice maker is not making ice.

The water spout out front delivers water. The ice spout turns the ice tray assemly.

I banged around on the ice maker in frustration the other night and the next morning I had about three trays of ice cycle through the machine.

I don't knoe if it is the inlet water valve or the Ice maker or maybe the pc board/sensor on the side.

I recall a loader then normal water fill niose some weeks ago.

How do I check and where can I get a copy of the diagram for these assemblies?

Thanks in advance for you help

Answer

Hi Mary,

Since hitting the icemaker got it to work a little I will say that the water valve is unlikely because they almost never work intermittently. Plus I don’t think hitting the icemaker would affect the water valve. So I believe we can pretty much rule out the water valve.

The motor/modular is the most likely cause for this problem because they commonly intermittently work/not work and hitting the icemaker could have very possibly temporarily put it back to work. The motor/modular is on the front of the icemaker; remove the front cover to access it. Hear is a link to view and/or buy the motor/modular.

With that being said yes the Optics (pc board) can also be the problem. Read the section of optics on this page Whirlpool Icemaker Not Working
