ice maker not emptying

i have a side by side kenmore-the water line has been turned off for a couple of weeks-i turned it on today and now the ice maker will not empty

Answer

Often when you turn the water off to an icemaker but leave the icemaker turned on the tube that feeds the icemaker water will freeze. This will cause water not to enter the icemaker. If this is the case remove all the ice out of the tube and the icemaker should go back to work.


But if you are getting water but it will not dump you have a different problem. First try taking the icemaker out and running hot water over it just to make sure nothing if frozen.
