fridge not generating ice cubes automatically

by daniel
(chicage il)

maytag side by side-

I get water but no water being sent to ice cube tray , there must be a separate water line for the cubes only that is the problem? it is not the arm, I did turn off frezzer for 24 hrs and this did not work either.
perhaps a hidden switch or something internal around cover of stationary ice cube tray area?.

Answer
You most likely have a Whirlpool type icemaker (they were used on a lot of brands) so this page may help Whirlpool Icemaker Repair

If you have the Whirlpool type there will be test holes on the front if the icemaker that you can see if you remove the front cover. Make a jumper wire with a short piece of wire skinned on each end. Place one end of the wire in the hole marked L and the other in the hold marked V. This should activate the water valve and water should flow. If not replace the water valve.

Note that there is a separate line for the icemaker but the same water valve.

If water does flow more than likely you have a bad motor/modular.

If this isn’t the type of icemaker you have post a comment (with your model number) and we will go from there.

Thank you,
